Entries Sought for Annual Sandcastle Contest

The 52nd annual Sandcastle Contest at Corona del Mar State Beach themed "Haunted Castles," will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Grab your shovel, pails and creative ideas, it's almost time for the 52nd annual Sandcastle Contest in Corona del Mar.

Hosted by the Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce, the annual sandcastle contest is expected to draw thousands to Corona del Mar State Beach on Sunday, Oct. 6. All skill levels, from children to professional architects, are invited to join in on the sandcastle building. Prizes include the winning title, plus categories such as Most Humorous Creation and Commodores Award for Best Overall Creation.

Themed "Haunted Castles," the sandcastle contest will be held from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The building portion of the contest will take place from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to stop by and view the sandcastle creations. To sign up, visit newportbeach.com, call Kathleen at 949-729-4403 or send an email to ksanchez@newportbeach.com. On site registration begins the day of the event at 9 a.m.

Entry Fees:

  • Masters (Architecture firms) $60
  • Businesses (All other businesses): $40
  • Families: $30
  • Other (Youth Groups, Civic groups, clubs, etc.): $30
