UPDATE: Community Raises Thousands of Dollars for Crystal Morales

Donations are still being accepted for the teen who has been in a medically induced coma since she was struck in a crosswalk near Newport Harbor High School on Dec. 6.

In just a few short days, the community of Newport Beach has raised thousands of dollars for the .

The 17-year-old teen is a Newport Harbor High School senior, she suffered head trauma, internal bleeding and brain swelling ain a crosswalk on Dec. 6. Alexandra Holbrook has helped organize the fundraisers on behalf of her friend Crystal, and says the response over the last few days has been very touching.

"We have received over $5,000 in these first few days," Holbrook said. "It's been absolutely amazing. Everyone has been so generous and kind and it's been really special."

Donations can be made at Bank of America and directed to the Crystal Morales account. Checks and get well cards can also be dropped off at Newport Harbor High School and they will be given to the Morales Family. In addition to the fundraising efforts, one of Crystal's classmates has also created the Help Crystal Foundation Facebook page  where friends and family of the teen have been leaving well wishes.

Crystal is still in critical condition, but stable, according to Newport Harbor High Principal Michael Vossen. "Visitation is limited to family members only," Vossen said. "The Morales Family extends their sincere gratitude for everyone's thoughts, prayers and good wishes."
