Broken Sprinkler Closes Central Library

Building was evacuated after the Children's Room was drenched, but it was back to business as usual when it reopened at 2 p.m.

A broken water sprinkler caused a short closure of the on Tuesday, but it has since reopened, a library official said.

The library closed around 11:25 a.m. after a sprinkler in the Children's Room broke, according to Katherine Meilke, library spokeswoman. The fire alarm was activated and the library was evacuated.

"The Fire Department identified the issue and the construction crew on hand for the expansion project repaired the sprinkler and is currently working on cleaning up the Children's Room," Meilke said.

The library reopened at 2 p.m., but the Children's Room will remain closed until the carpets are dried and cleaned.

Meikle said damage to the library was minimal.
