Community Invited to Bicycle Master Plan Event Tomorrow

City officials say a Bicycle Master Plan will be developed to enhance the safety of bike riding in Newport Beach, and to urge more people to bike around town.

The city of Newport Beach is hosting an informational event tomorrow at the Newport Pier plaza to help get community input about the development of the city's Bicycle Master Plan.

The creation of the Bicycle Master Plan is being guided by members of the Bicycle Master Plan Oversight Committee, which was approved by the City Council in March. Brad Sommers, the city's senior civil engineer, said the plan will be used to help make bicycle rides better in Newport Beach, and encourage more people to enjoy biking for leisure, exercise or transportation. Sommers said community input is essential.

"Having information from a wide variety of users, including all forms of cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists, ensures the Bicycle Master Plan addresses the needs of the cycling community without adversely affecting other users," Sommers said.
