Strong Winds and Warmer Temperatures in O.C. to Last Two Days

This week's offshore winds are developing "very late in the season" and will prove "unusually strong," said a meteorologist.

Strong, gusty Santa Ana winds will sweep parts of the Southland today, ushering in two days of above-normal temperatures, including an expected high of 90 in Orange County.

This week's offshore winds -- resulting from high pressure over the Great Basin combined with colder air -- are developing "very late in the season" and will prove "unusually strong," said National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Bruno.

He said high winds create an elevated fire risk but added that the rains in March had moistened what otherwise would have been bone-dry vegetation.
