Safe Car App, a Fashion Show and Ice Cream

1. The newly opened Ashtin Salon in Corona del Mar is hosting a grand opening party today from 6 to 8 p.m. For every salon booking made tonight, 10 percent will be donated to the American Cancer Society. 2. USA.gov is encouraging drivers to download the Safer Car from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Safer Car app lets drivers look up a vehicle’s crash test results and get notifications of important car recalls or new safety information. The app even gives driving directions and can give help on properly installing child car seats.

3. Anyone who donates blood or platelets in August at Hoag Blood Donor Services will be entered to win an ice cream cake from Haagen-Dazs at Fashion Island. To make a donation appointment, call 949-764-5621 or email donateblood@hoag.org.

5. Clouds will linger around this morning, but the day will be mostly sunny, according to the National Weather Service. The coast will see highs of around 69, inland temperatures will be in the range of 76-81.
