Meet the Mayor, Big Band Music and a Wine Seminar

1. Today from 1-2:30 p.m. a Big Band music seminar will be held at the OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar. The seminar is free and will be led by Ken Jensen, a former Big Band musician, who will talk about the music and artists of the Big Band Era. The seminar will be held at the OASIS Event Center, 801 Narcissus Ave.

2. The Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Summer Concert Series will continue tonight at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by David Sanborn and Bob James. The Hyatt is located at 1107 Jamboree Road.

3. On Saturday from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Mayor Keith Curry will be meeting residents at the Balboa Branch Library, 100 East Balboa Blvd. Curry will start the morning with a brief overview of what the City Council and staff are working on and then will take questions and listen to comments and suggestions from residents and business owners. Community members are encouraged to stop by and have a cup of coffee with Curry.

4. On Saturday at 6 p.m. wine lovers are invited to the Back Bay Bistro at Newport Dunes for a relaxed dinner and wine seminar. Attendees will explore the systematic blind-tasting methodology used by the Court of Master Sommeliers.The event will be useful for every wine drinker, experienced level or just beginning. 5. In honor of the Golden Foodie Awards, Casey's Cupcakes is selling Golden Velvet Cupcakes, the official cupcake of the Golden Foodie Awards, through Sept. 29. The golden velvet cupcake is a red velvet cake with light cream cheese frosting adorned with a special 24 carat gold dust, gold glitter and fold covered candy pearls. Each cupcake is $4.
