3. Newport Beach Lifeguards are hosting an End of the Summer Blood Drive tomorrow from 1-7 p.m at Newport Beach Lifeguard Headquarters, located at the base of the Newport Pier.  In competition with lifeguard agencies from Orange County and LA County, Newport hopes to win the Southern California Challenge Cup for the fourth consecutive year. A burger barbeque will provided for donors. To schedule an appointment, call 949-644-3047, or sign-up at redcrossblood.org. Don't forget, photo identification is required.

4. If your children play sports during the school year, USA.gov wants to make sure they are outfitted with the proper equipment to prevent injuries. While it’s OK to buy gently used equipment in some instances, like lacrosse or hockey sticks, USA.gov urges parents not to skimp on a good quality helmet. A used helmet could already have the padding damaged and that will offer your children less protection. Make sure you can recognize the signs of a concussion and learn how to prevent other common sports injuries like sprains or pulled muscles.

5. Today will be mostly cloudy in the morning, becoming mostly sunny throughout the day. The coast will see highs of around 71, inland areas will be 81-86, according to the National Weather Service.
