Emergency Alert, Pancakes and Jazz Music

Events happening today and this weekend in Newport Beach and Corona del Mar.

1. Today at noon the city will conduct the Outdoor Emergency Notification System test. For more details, read our story here.

2. Don't forget! On Saturday from 9 - 11 a.m., the OASIS Senior Center is hosting a Pancake Breakfast. $4 for adults, $2 for kids. The OASIS is located at 801 Narcissus Ave. in Corona del Mar.

3. On Sunday from 3-4 p.m. the Newport Beach Public Library is hosting its first series of Sunday Musicales at the Central Library. The Jazz Brothers will kick off the free series at the Central Library Friends Room. The Jazz Brothers ensemble features a program of swinging and melodious original jazz compositions.

4. On Saturday at 9 a.m., Newport Bay Conservancy is hosting a guided, two hour nature walk along the Back Bay. Meet at the entrance to Shellmaker Island and the Back Bay Science Center.

5. At 9 a.m. on Saturday Roger's Gardens will be presenting, My Edible Garden in September with horticulturist Steve Hampson. Hampson will talk everything edible including vegetables, herbs, fruits, berries, grapes and more. Emphasis this month will be on planting of cool-season vegetables, including cool-season tomatoes.  Discussion of late summer pests and diseases also will be included. He will also lead a lively and interactive discussion about what, where and when to plant, prune, feed or harvest. Roger's Gardens is located at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Rd. in Corona del Mar.
