Specializing in pilates and cycling classes, Defy Gravity is hoping to fill a fitness void in the village.
A pilates and cycling studio devoted to providing personalized attention to its students is now open in Corona del Mar. Defy Gravity Studio -- located at 3100 E. Pacific Coast Highway -- was created by co-owners and instructors Laura Fox and Shannon Barbadian. The pair say their state-of-the-art equipment and unique teaching styles will fill a void in the fitness community. “It’s such and active community but these types of classes were lacking,” Barbadian said. An analyst hired by environmentalists says the steps being taken by Southern California Edison won't work.
San Onofre could be on ice for 18 months before technicians finally fix the faulty generators that leaked radioactive steam in January, according to a report issued Tuesday by Fairewinds Associates, an energy consulting firm hired by an anti-nuclear group. "The damaged steam generators ... require major modifications with repair and outage time that could last more than 18 months if [Southern California] Edison and [generator manufacturer] Mitsubishi are even able to repair these faulty designed steam generators," the report states. The report, commissioned by the environmental group Friends of the Earth, said replacing the steam generators is the only real solution to the problem. An Orange County man living in Florida was arrested with 31 men in an online child predator sting operated by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
An Irvine native is among a group of men facing child predator charges in a large online sex sting operated by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office of Florida. At a press conference on Monday, Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight announced the results of the first-ever online child predator sting carried out by the sheriff’s office, which lasted six days. The iconic Coast Highway roadside eatery, rebranded by the Ruby's chain, has applied for a beer and wine license.
The roadside Ruby's at Crystal Cove between Laguna Beach and Corona del Mar—known and still remembered by most locals as the Shake Shack—has applied for a license to serve beer and wine. According to reports, the application was filed this week. Applications typically take up to two months to process. After being closed for several months, the Coast Highway landmark underwent an extensive remodel last year. The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Southland jumped more than a dime in the last two days, according to the latest Auto Club survey. In Orange County, prices jumped up 4.9 cents Friday and 6.1 cents today, Saturday. The Orange County average is now $4.323, which is 11.7 cents more than a week ago, 8.2 cents higher than one month ago and 8.1 cents greater than one year ago. The price went up 4.3 cents Friday and 6.1 cents today in Los Angeles County, and now sits at $4.337. Today's increase was the biggest daily jump since Feb. 23, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California. FasTrak users can now use their smart phones to plan a trip on the Toll Roads and get complete access to their account, the Transportation Corridor Agencies announced today. The Toll Roads' free mobile phone app can be downloaded onto the iPhone and Android and will provide the same information FasTrak users find on the Toll Roads' website. A section of Balboa Island in Newport Beach is under a health advisory today, according to the Orange County Health Care Agency. Earlier this week the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Ocean Water Protection Program posted warning signs at Garnet Avenue at the south side of Balboa Island. According to health officials, the bacteria levels exceed health standards and contact with the water may cause illness. The Food and Drug Administration issued a warning Thursday about the risks of serious injuries and death associated with a vein opening treatment for multiple sclerosis patients.
