Blog: I Heart Puppies Crumbles

I Heart Puppies has lost an opportunity.

Some may expect a humane advocate/protester of I Heart Puppies to be jumping for joy at the news of its closure. But our protest was not a battle of imposing will, it was a fight to aid in diminishing a national crisis of horrific canine cruelty and help foster humane opportunities for the city.

The owners of I Heart Puppies have an unwavering commitment to  their inhumane industry of USDA commercially bred puppy mill dogs. Citizens and the Companion Animal Protection Society made continuous requests for the store to convert their inhumane fraudulent business model into a proven successful and profitable humane business model that did not provide funds supporting the growth of abuse and death in the puppy mill industry.

But they have chosen to close shop, instead of practicing honest and ethical business that would have benefited in helping our own homeless pets here in Newport Beach to find homes, and offered viable options for citizens choosing to purchase a pet of humane origin.

The city paid a price in it’s undiscerning support of puppy mill dogs sold to consumers and Newport families solely under fraudulent practices. In supporting inhumane sales for the city, it compromised the integrity of various city institutions and Newport’s credibility of respectable business. The Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce promoted and marketed fraudulent industry information and fraudulent business practices that victimized our own citizens and families who were assured they were buying  puppies raised of reputable breeding and standards.

To secure business growth, the Newport Beach Police Department animal control unit did not hold the store in accountable for breaking state laws and failing to provide information on the true origin of the puppies, thereby enabling fraudulent sales to go undetected by the community. Animal control supplied the store with homeless Newport cats to promote a false impression of a humane business, and broke their own protocols to do so requesting funds be paid directly to the city, involving it in illegal sales of animals for profit.

May the city of Newport Beach gain new insight to the hazards of promoting business at all costs, when business runs solely off a fraud model void of supply and demand.  The added sting, an industry of federal canine torture which congress and the entire nation are working furiously to regulate and overhaul, Newport  can no longer afford investing in it's growth, directly victimizes its own  citizens.

Had the city taken action and passed an ordinance banning puppy mill sales in Newport Beach, instead of offering resources, we would be celebrating eight months of growth in revenues, creation of new jobs, displaying leadership in innovative, humane business models, while providing housing opportunities for our homeless and diminishing federal cruelty…..instead of investing in it's growth.

On behalf of humane protesters I would like to thank the community of Corona del Mar for your continuous support. It has kept us strong and able to fight animal abuse for the greater good of our beautiful city.

A special thank you to the Honorable Mayor Nancy Gardner , in addressing the rights of her humane ethical citizens, maintaining an ethical level playing field, and her investment of valuable time spent gaining further insight on the facts of our  National Disgrace, the Puppy Mill Trade, still very much alive and prospering in Newport Beach.

what a load of crap! Unsubstantiated garbage calling them inhumane and a puppy mill.
No evidence of any of that.
What I did see was unrelenting harassment and bigoted myopic viewpoints telling all citizens that nobody should be buying a puppy, that only shelter dogs should be utilized as pets.

And by the way -- since your are entirely uneducated about the National Disgrace of Puppy Mills that was I Heart Puppies sole supplier of dogs, USDA commercial breeders, I'll be a good neighbor and fill you in.... Every USDA Breeder is a Puppy Mill, and USDA Breeders were found in federal court in light of their factory farming practices to be of legal finding and of legal defintion "inhumane" in a court of LAW... USDA Breeders are Inhumane treatment of Companion Animals violating their federal rights of the AWA....... your welcome :)

Yes, buying and selling dogs from puppy mills is a load of crap - tons of it. Perhaps, you feel left out Mark because nobody has informed YOU. Maybe it's time you read about the industry and familiarate yourself with facts. Thank you Kelly for bringing the truth of this sordid "business" to light. It's time we stopped selling lives for profit.

"I couldn't have my happiness made out of a wrong--an unfairness--to somebody else...What sort of a life could we build on such foundations?" --Edith Wharton
Selling cruelty by way of selling puppy mill puppies is so very wrong.

70% of the general public has no idea what a puppy mill is. Perhaps our friend Mark is one of the 70%. All you have to do is google the words "Puppy mill" to read about the horrors that dogs in commercial (aka USDA) breeding facilities (aka puppy mills) go through every. single. day of their heartbreakingly miserable lives.

Here's another quotation you might want to consider, Mr. 70%:

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
-- Mahatma Gandhi

to Mark and anyone else who doesn't really know what's going on out there:

all you have to do is open your eyes...
puppy mills need to be closed down - these dogs don't deserve to live like this. This is the only goal of activists. It's all about the dogs. That's all. That simple.

I suggest Mark is an owner or partner in puppy mills! Any descent human being who looks at those pics & makes that type of comment is NOT descent! Same for the USDA! Who pads their pockets? THIS TRADE IS DISGUSTING!

While we are clearing the air about the FACTS of Newports Investment in the Puppy Mill Industry, let’s get this Humane Advocate Communist Pet Agenda off the table. If you buy into the “Pet Agenda” phenomenon, your pea sized brain has been washed by the Puppy Millers and their retail pimp pet store owners. Humane Advocates advocate for and value Canine Life. Enough so that we take constant abuse from the ignorance stated through out these comments. We care enough for Man’s Best Friend, that we don’t feel it is right or ethical that as a nation we are strapping them down in terror giving them the needle and choking them in terror stuffed in a gas chamber at the rate of 5 million a year, 500,000 a year in California, and almost 4,000 dogs only last year at O.C. Animal Care our county shelter.

We pretend to be a nation of canine lovers. Facts and Reality is we have become a nation of canine murderers in the Department of Agriculture and our Homeless shelters. We have all found the experience of adoption to be overwhelming positive and so we hope through education and awareness that shelter stigma is shed and others might choose that option to save a life that would otherwise end up at the local dump. What you all fail to acknowledge, we are the same people telling you how to find a reputable breeder and how to safely purchase a HEALTHY puppy. I provide reputable breeder checks for Newport Citizens because part of the reason we stand on the street is defending the consumer defrauding that is victimizing Newport Citizens in large numbers with sick, diseased, and dead animals. I read the council in meeting on record the letter of an 8 year old boy written to Russo’s that was forced to watch his new fatally diseased kitten die before his eyes… It was heart wrenching… BUT, COUNCIL DIDN’T CARE.

If I have the power to actually tell you, or force you into what type of pet you should acquire, I have a few more orders for the city like quit treating the disable like c—p, and fund more resources for domestic violence women. Pet Agenda is propaganda the Bradford’s used to sell federal cruelty…and the result is people that are incapable of seeing the bigger picture fall for it, and start promoting the sale of canine federal cruelty as a consumer choice. Federal Cruelty is not a consumer choice it’s a TRAGEDY. If you defend federal law breaking canine murders and line their pockets for your “choice”, congratulations… you are so dumb you have been brainwashed by people so unintelligent, the only way they can make a living through the abuse of defenseless animals….You are also a Product of the puppy mill industry…. Don’t believe me… watch this and then think twice before you lash out at those who respect life and defend those who torture and murder. Wake up Newport Beach, you’re promoting the victimization of your neighbors and the death of Puppy Mill dogs bred for the Puppies in Newport Beach.
