Help Rename the Crystal Cathedral
Catholic bishop seeks public ideas for rebranding the big glass church. Deadline is Feb. 20.
Our Lady of Perpetual Windex.
St. Schuller's.
Jesus Coast Plaza.
A request for public input in renaming the Crystal Cathedral is drawing ideas both serious and silly.
Last week, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange officially took ownership of the famous glass church. This week, Bishop Tod Brown began soliciting suggestions for rebranding the iconic building.
"It is our goal to make the new cathedral a gathering place for Catholics and other people of faith," Brown said in a statement posted online. "By asking for naming suggestions we begin the process of connecting this wonderful structure and its future to our faith and the larger community."
Brown said the new name should "refer to the nature and person of Christ or to his activities as illustrated by the gospels."
The deadline for suggestions is Feb. 20. Brown will review the ideas and announce his choice sometime later.
But there's no rush.
Although the diocese now owns the property, the church won't officially turn Catholic for several years. As part of the purchase deal, the Crystal Cathedral's current congregation can continue using the church for three years. After that, the diocese will redesign and tweak the building before converting it to Catholicism.
To submit your nomination for the church's new moniker, visit the diocese's cathedral name website. Or tell us your ideas in the comments section below.

Reflections of Christ.
This would be the perfect concept--we are to be reflections of the Lord. Just as the Church/building is mirrored and reflects, so should we as Christians, (the Body of Christ) reflect the love and nature of our Savior.

Because it is a crystal cathedral, I would relate a proposed new name to the celestial New Jerusalem described in Revelation 21 of the Bible as being a glorious city that is to come down in the future from God out of heaven. Maybe proposed names like Celestial New Jerusalem or Celestial City or Celestial Temple or Holy New Jerusalem or Great Celestial or Golden Celestial Cathedral or Light of Christ or Glorious Temple or The Glorious Celestial Cathedral or Cathedral of the Lamb or Christ Cathedral.

Some great inspired names listed above and would offer the name:
"The Holy Trinity Cathedral" of Orange County, CA.
With that offered name that there are some specific reasons offered as described to the Bishop's office.

A researcher in the movie thought we were wrongly named as homosapiens, (understanding), and that homospiritualis is more accurate.
Well, evolutionary changes don't happen quick, and through fits and starts.

I agree, the Crystal Cathedral. Leave it alone.
It is nice to be asked for input, but really a name is just that . . .a name. I am more interested in the good that can be shared there.

The Crystal Cathedral by any other name will still be "The Crystal Cathedral". Commenting as someone who donated to this property for many years, please leave the name the same.
