Police Department Fills Newly Created Position

Jonathan Stafford was chosen as the department's support services administrator. The position was created following the command structure reorganization.

The Newport Beach Police Department officially named Jonathan Stafford as its support services administrator at a swearing-in ceremony this week.

Jonathan Stafford's new position is the result of a recent reorganization within the police department's command structure. Chief Jay Johnson says Stafford is perfect for the job.

“Jonathan competed with 96 applicants in a very rigorous testing process and rose to the top of the pack. I had the privilege to work with Jonathan for several years in Long Beach and know first-hand that he is one one of the best in his field," Johnson said. "We are very fortunate to have him in Newport Beach.

Stafford comes to Newport Beach with 20 years of experience in support roles for government agencies, which includes 15 years with the Long Beach Police Department where he was responsible for all support operations involving records, information technology and fleet management.

Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, says Stafford's position will benefit the department in several ways.

"The reorganization not only creates a structural savings in employee costs, saving taxpayer money, but brings in a higher level of expertise to manage the very specialized civilian operations of the Police Department," Lowe explained.
