Tradition Continues at Corona del Mar's 33rd Annual Christmas Walk

Thousands of locals and visitors packed the seaside village.

It was a festive day Sunday in Corona del Mar as thousands of locals and visitors stopped by the village for the 33rd Annual Corona del Mar Christmas Walk.

The event is one of the oldest events hosted by the Corona del Mar Chamber of Commerce and was created to give businesses an opportunity to mix with community members. The Christmas Walk serves as the official kick-off for the holiday season in CDM and gives people a chance to walk up and down East Coast Highway and indulge on a lot of goodies.

"We came from Anaheim to enjoy the beach weather and grab some treats on our way to lunch," said Rod Cummings, a CDM visitor.

Many stores had tables out front with complimentary treats and merchandise. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf was giving away samples of white chocolate cookies and Chai tea. The Newport Beach Fire Department hosted its Firemen's Grill BBQ station in the upper parking lot of Banderas. Brian McDonough, president of the Firefighter's Association, said supporting the Christmas Walk is important.

"I even brought my daughter, Kylie, along to help," McDonough said. "A family affair for sure."

Hobie Surf Shop was also buzzing with shoppers, nibbling on chocolate stars and mini gingerbread men. There was live music up and down the street, bungee jumping, a beer and wine garden and lets not forget a visit from Santa.

The Corona del Mar Branch Library also attracted a room full of children with a magic show and crafts tables.

"The magician is amazing, he even has a magical way with the children getting them to stand up and volunteer," said librarian Haidee Barker. "Some of these kids are normally so shy."
